BAKTRIA, Indo-Greek Kingdom. Diomedes, circa 115-105 BC. Tetradrachm (Silver, 27 mm, 9.69 g, 12 h), uncertain mint in Paropamisadai or western Gandhara. ΒΑΣΙΛΕΩΣ ΣΟΤΗΡΟΣ / ΔΙΟΜΗΔΟΥ Diademed heroic bust of Diomedes to left, wearing crested helmet and holding spear in his right hand and wearing aegis on his left shoulder. Rev. 'Maharajasa tratarasa Diyumetasa' ('of the Great King Diomedes the Savior' in Karoshti) The Dioskouri galloping to right, each holding spear and palm frond; to lower right, monogram. Bopearachchi 7A. HGC 12, 281. Extremely rare. Harshly cleaned and with a scratch on the reverse, otherwise, good very fine.
